In Case of Emergency

When an emergency happens you need to act smart and fast. There are steps you can take to help emergency veterinarians save your pet when accidents, sudden illnesses, or other situations come without warning.

Here are some steps developed by AECC/VISC, Brevard’s most comprehensive animal emergency facility:

Step 1: Remain Calm. Do not attempt home remedies.

Step 2: Call AECC at (321) 725-5365 to tell the staff about your emergency. The emergency veterinarians or staff may recommend important first aid procedures before you leave for the hospital. This also enables us to be ready for your arrival in a critical situation.

Step 3: Be careful. When injured, even a loving, gentle pet may bite. If in doubt, tie a soft muzzle (cloth or nylons) around the mouth and secure behind the head.

Step 4: Drive carefully to AECC/VISC. We are located on the SW corner of Eau Gallie Boulevard and Croton Road in Melbourne. Pull up and unload your pet in the covered portico emergency entrance. If needed, please ask the front desk for assistance.

Once you reach the facility, you will check in with a technician and an emergency veterinarian will examine your pet. Your observations of your pet’s behavior and symptoms are often helpful in determining the condition of your pet. After the initial examination, tests may be required to diagnose the problem. The staff will clearly discuss treatment options, anticipated lab and/or treatment costs, as well as prognosis with you before you authorize the veterinarians to act.
